EE.UU, 26 ene 2023 (ATB Digital).- “Vivimos en un mundo y trabajamos en industrias que están agresivamente comprometidas con defender la blancura y perpetuar una misoginia descarada hacia las mujeres negras”, aseguró recientemente en sus redes sociales la cineasta nigeriana Chinonye Chukwu.
Se presume que estas declaraciones están dirigidas a Hollywood, y en particular a la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas estadounidense, en alusión al anuncio de los nominados a los Premios Oscar, listado en el cual no fue incluido el nombre de Chukwu en la categoría a mejor dirección.
‘Till’, el drama autobiográfico dirigido por la africana, había recibido elogios de la crítica, así como su actriz principal, Danielle Deadwyler, quien aspiraba a competir por el premio a mejor actriz. Finalmente, la cinta no recibió ni una sola nominación.
“Sin embargo, siempre estaré agradecida por la mayor lección de mi vida. Independientemente de cualquier desafío u obstáculo, siempre tendré el poder de cultivar mi propia alegría, y es esta alegría la que seguirá siendo una de mis mayores formas de resistencia”, concluye Chukwu en su mensaje.
En la 95.ª edición de los Premios Oscar, que se celebrará el 12 de marzo, ninguna mujer negra fue nominada a mejor dirección. Fueron seleccionadas únicamente películas dirigidas por hombres. Se esperaba que este año el listado de aspirantes a la mejor dirección tomara otro rumbo, principalmente porque durante dos años consecutivos el galardón ha recaído en mujeres, explica la agencia AP.
La exclusión de mujeres afrodescendientes también se vivió en las categorías de actriz principal y de reparto. Angela Bassett fue la única nominada a un Oscar este año (como mejor actriz de reparto), y lo logró por su interpretación de Ramonda en ‘Pantera Negra: Wakanda Forever’.
Las nominaciones al famoso galardón han estado teñidas de polémica durante años por las acusaciones de falta de inclusión de minorías y diversidad racial. La campaña #OscarsSoWhite (Oscars demasiado blancos), impulsada entre 2015 y 2016, en contra de un total dominio de actores blancos entre los aspirantes al premio, llevó a la Academia a dar pasos concretos en contra de la discriminación.
En 2020, hizo un anuncio histórico proclamando nuevas y estrictas reglas de elegibilidad para los aspirantes al premio a mejor película, con el ánimo de “fomentar una representación equitativa dentro y fuera de la pantalla a fin de reflejar mejor la diversidad”. Si bien algunos de los requisitos han venido introduciéndose en las últimas ediciones, solo a partir de 2024 será necesario cumplir con al menos dos de los cuatro estándares para recibir el máximo galardón de la industria cinematográfica estadounidense.
