La Paz, 3 feb 2023 (ATB Digital).- Ante la necesidad de proteger las reservas del agua, la Empresa Pública Social de Agua y Saneamiento (EPSAS) determinó quitar la categoría solidaria y elevar a tarifas comerciales a los hogares en los que se identifique mal uso del agua.
“Vamos a identificar esos lugares donde se está haciendo mal uso. Tenemos un sistema Scada, con el que sabemos de cada vecino cuál es su promedio de consumo, siete, ocho, 10 metros cúbicos, si sube a 15 metros cúbicos ahí nos alertamos qué es lo que está pasando. Puede ser por una fuga o mal uso, si evidenciamos que es un mal uso que está haciendo del agua, ya no gozará de una categoría solidaria, vamos a migrar a una comercial”, afirmó el interventor de EPSAS, Bladimir Iraizaso.
Pasar a una categoría comercial implica una tarifa más alta. Así se espera frenar al uso indiscriminado del agua. “Si pagaba el metro cúbico (Bs) 1,78, pagará (Bs) 10,50 el metro cúbico”.

El anuncio se realiza en medio de una alerta por las reservas del agua y la proximidad del Carnaval. Esta semana, el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Agua informó que las represas de La Paz están al 45% de su capacidad y, aunque las lluvias ya son más frecuentes, se espera mayor intensidad para ingresar a rangos de tranquilidad.
La Alcaldía de La Paz comprometió apoyo a EPSAS para continuar con las medidas preventivas. De momento, se prevé incrementar las tarifas de agua en el municipio para las construcciones y lavaderos de autos.
“La Alcaldía se ha comprometido en hacernos llegar de las construcciones legales e ilegales, para poder nosotros identificar (…) las vamos a migrar de una categoría solidaria a comercial. Termina su construcción y volverá, los lavaderos de la misma manera”.
Iraizaso llamó a la población a usar con responsabilidad el agua, más aún cuando se acerca en Carnaval. Jugar con el líquido elemento está prohibido. “Estamos seguros que se va a volver un hábito cuidar el medio ambiente y el agua”.
