Potosí, 13 ene 2023 (ATB Digital). – El director ejecutivo y fundador de la empresa canadiense New Pacific Metals Corp, Rui Feng, afirmó que el proyecto Silver Sand que se ejecuta en Potosí “puede convertirse en una de las minas de plata más grandes del mundo”.
Un último estudio efectuado por la empresa, con base en datos al 28 de noviembre de 2022, identificó que la mina tiene unas 171 millones de onzas de metal de plata y una vida útil de 14 años.
“Este estudio demuestra que el proyecto Silver Sand puede convertirse en una de las minas de plata más grandes del mundo con una larga vida útil y una economía sólida. Su desarrollo traerá beneficios económicos a todas las partes interesadas, incluidas las comunidades de Bolivia y los accionistas de New Pacific”, sostuvo Feng.
El proyecto Silver Sand comprende cuatro áreas mineras a cielo abierto: el tajo principal, dos pequeños tajos satélite del norte (NP1 y NP2) y un tajo satélite del este (EP1). La minería a cielo abierto implica perforación y voladura convencionales, con carga por excavadora y transporte de mineral por camiones a una trituradora o a la plataforma de extracción total. Los residuos serán acarreados a vertederos de desmonte externos y en tajo.
Los costos de capital iniciales ascienden a $us 308 millones, que incluyen $us 52 millones en costos de contingencia; los costos de capital de mantenimiento durante la vida útil de la mina totalizarán $us 20 millones.
New Pacific Metals Corp., con su subsidiaria en Bolivia Minera Alcira, opera tres áreas en el altiplano y cordillera occidental: Silver Sand, Silver Strike y Carangas, en los departamentos de Potosí, La Paz y Oruro,
Las 171 millones de onzas de plata de Silver Sand superan las reservas argentíferas de San Cristóbal y son casi tan relevantes como las 203,3 millones de onzas de plata que se calcula que posee Mallku Khota.
